Lawn and Shrub Care

Our Lawn & Shrub Care Services are not anything like our competitors have to offer. Our approach to Lawn & Shrub Care is more than just dragging a chemical hose across your lawn and treating your lawn & shrubs just like everyone else.

Our Lawn Care service provides 6 treatments per year. We service both warm and cool-season kinds of grass such as Bermuda/Zoysia ( warm season) and Tall Fescue ( cool season)

Our approach to lawn care is different from our competition simply because we believe in a granular approach versus liquid. By having a dense vigorously growing lawn, your lawn will be less acceptable to weeds and disease, as well as insect damage. With that being said, we have found that when your lawn is healthy and growing vigorously, there is less of a need to apply insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Giving you and your family peace of mind knowing that your lawn is NOT full of toxins. On each visit, we apply a granular nutrient. By applying granular fertilizer versus liquid, your lawn receives longer feeding times and more time-released nutrients. The end results are greener, healthier, thicker lawns.  Being that we apply a granular product on each visit. All concrete areas are blown off to track fertilizer into the home as well as prevent runoff into waterways.

Here are our approach and schedule for warm-season grasses.

Early Spring application: (Warm Season grasses) We apply a 007 fertilizer consisting of potash and a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent summer annual weeds. We also will spray all existing weeds with a herbicide mixed with a spray indicator dye so that applications are accurate and precise

Late Spring: We apply a 25 0 10 fertilizer consisting of another dose of pre-emergent herbicide. Again, providing more protection against summer annual weeds.

Summer: This time of the year is when warm-season grasses will be growing the most out of the year. Therefore are a need for constant high nitrogen feedings. We apply our Cadillac of fertilizers at this time of year. Such as 24 2 11 with Iron and micronutrients. All existing weeds such as sedge, crabgrass, and other broadleaf weeds are treated.

Fall: Now is the time of the year to prepare the warm season grasses for winter and dormancy. So we apply a 007 fertilizer with a pre-emergent herbicide. Again, treating any existing weeds in the lawn.

Winter: Wintertime is the best time to apply dolomitic limestone. Lime will do several things for your turf. It will condition the soil allowing for better nutrient intake. It adds valuable nutrients such as calcium and magnesium. It also will balance the soil PH. You still can get weeds in the lawn this time of year. So, as usual, we will treat any existing weeds on the lawn.

Cool Season grasses require a much different treatment schedule than warm-season grasses. Here are our approach and schedule to coll season grasses.

Early Spring: (Cool Season grasses) We apply a 25 0 10 fertilizer with a pre-emergent herbicide. Fescue grass needs that extra boost to start its optimum growing season. We will also treat any existing weeds on the lawn.

Late Spring: late spring is the perfect time to apply a systemic fungicide for the prevention of disease in early summer. We apply a granular fungicide and will spray any existing weeds in the lawn.

Summer: June, July, and August are the hottest times of the year in Georgia. It is a very important time of the year to try and protect the cool-season grasses from high temperatures. We apply very low nitrogen fertilizer, high in potash to help with root feeding. Also, iron is a key micronutrient that helps to maintain the beautiful green.

Fall: Core Aeration and over-seeding are required this time of the year for Fescue grass. This treatment will reestablish any thinned-out areas and will prepare the grass for a whole new growing season. Weed control cannot be done at this time because the herbicide will damage the seed and prevent new grass from germinating.

Winter: We apply a dolomitic limestone and will treat any existing weeds.

At Focus Pest Management, we include all weed types such as grassy weeds, sedge weeds, and broadleaf weeds, We also include preventative and corrective disease control. Also, imported fire ants and any lawn damaging insects such as billbugs and grubs are included with our regular lawn care service.

Shrub Care:

Our shrub care service consists of two treatments per year. One treatment is done in late spring and the other is done in late summer. Shrub care is much like lawn care to us. Shrubbery will be healthier when the right balance of fertilizer at the perfect time of the year is applied. Each treatment consists of applying a granular fertilizer to woody ornamentals and perennial-type shrubs. We will carefully inspect all shrubbery for damaging insects and diseases. If we discover any insects such as mealy bugs, lace bugs, or aphids for example. We apply a Horticultural insecticide oil which will help to suffocate the insect as well as put a waxy covering on the leaves of the plant to prevent further infestations. We also will apply a separate insecticide to help with a faster knockdown of insect pressure and damage. If we discover disease on any of your shrubberies, we apply a systemic granular fungicide.
